Designed for a family of four, this addition and renovation sought to transform the interior and exterior of their existing home and provide much needed additional space. A new master suite gives the parents a private retreat, that is linked to the rest of the second floor by a balcony that spans across a new two story atrium. On it’s south elevation, the glass paneled wall opens the expanded family room and second floor bedroom to a new ipe deck and balcony, views of the woods and captures winter solar gain. Outside, the entire house was re-clad with a new layer of rigid insulation and a combination of fiber cement siding and panels, transforming both the identity and energy efficiency of the home. The painting scheme for the home’s exterior is based on the tans and greens of the family’s favorite tree, “Sid the Sycamore.” Railings for the residence combine stock cable rail components with custom railing supports designed by PMA and fabricated by a local metal manufacturing company.
